Emergency Eye Care
Red eye, sudden vision changes, something in the eye, or pain that’s getting worse? Call us. We’ll triage quickly and get you seen as soon as possible.
What counts as an eye emergency
Some eye problems can safely wait, but others need urgent assessment to protect vision and relieve pain. If you’re unsure, contact us. We’ll help you decide what to do next.
Common urgent problems we see
Red, painful eye (especially with light sensitivity)
Sudden vision loss or new blur
Foreign body in the eye (dust, metal, debris)
Flashes, floaters, or a “curtain” over vision
Eye injury or chemical exposure
Sudden severe headache with visual symptoms
Call immediately if you have severe pain, sudden vision loss, chemical splash, significant injury, or a new “curtain/shadow” in your vision.
What to do before you arrive
If something is in your eye (foreign body):
- Don’t rub the eye
Rinse gently with clean water or saline if available
Avoid trying to “pick it out” with tools or tissues
Bring safety glasses/helmet if it happened at work (helps us understand exposure)
If you have a red, painful eye:
Stop contact lenses immediately
Bring your lenses and case (or a photo of the packaging)
Avoid using leftover antibiotic drops unless advised
Sunglasses can help if light sensitive
If you had a chemical splash:
Start flushing immediately with running water for at least 15 minutes
Remove contact lenses during flushing if possible
Bring the chemical name or a photo of the label/SDS
Call us while flushing if you can
If you have sudden flashes/floaters or a curtain effect:
Call us urgently
Avoid driving yourself if vision is significantly affected
Bring someone with you if possible
